Sincona sale 95, lot 4292

This specimen was lot 4292 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 950 CHF (about US$1,317 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Luzern, Stadt und Kanton, Groschen 1568, Luzern. Selten. Fast sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, Luzern mint. Rare, About Very Fine.)"

This type was struck 1562-69 in numerous varieties. At this time, one thaler made 24 groschen or 72 kreuzer. This one has the obverse legend "MONETA NOVA LVCERNENSIS"; others of this date lack the "NOVA".

Specification: 2.2 g, silver, 21 mm diameter, this specimen 1.91 g.
