Luxembourg 1775 12 sols
This specimen was lot 1184 in Jean Elsen sale 163 (Brussels, November 2025), where it sold for €440 (about US$508 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"LUXEMBOURG, Duché, Marie-Thérèse (1740-1780), AR 12 sols, 1775, Bruxelles. D/ B. dr. et voilé de l'impératrice à d. R/ Écu luxembourgeois couronné, accosté de la valeur. Très rare. (duchy of Luxembourg, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, silver twelve sols of 1775, Brussels mint. Obverse: draped and veiled bust of the empress right; reverse: crowned arms of Luxembourg divides the value. Very rare, Fine.)
Altho Luxembourg had been part of the Catholic Low Countries for centuries, it was given a separate coinage from Brabant and Flanders when the Austrians took it over from the Spanish in 1714. This type, struck 1775-77, is rare, along with most of the Austrian issues for the duchy. All of it, except the issues of 1790, was made in Brussels. Twelve sols = two escalins and 54 sols = one kronenthaler.
