The first specimen was lot 1484 in Jean Elsen sale 162 (Brussels, June 2025), where it sold for €400 (about US$555 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LUXEMBOURG, Duché, Élisabeth de Görlitz, engagiste (1425-1451), AR demi-gros, 2e émission (1433-1443), Luxembourg. D/ Aigle éployée sur les écus de Bavière-Palatinat et Luxembourg. R/ Croix feuillue dans un quadrilobe. Frappe faible. (duchy of Luxembourg, Elizabeth of Gorlitz, mortgagor, 1425-51, silver half groat, second emission, circa 1433-43. Obverse: eagle displayed above the arms of Bavaria-Palatinate and Luxembourg; reverse: foliate cross in a quadrilobe. Weakly struck, Fine - Very Fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 1241 in Jean Elsen sale 164 (Brussels, March 2026), where it sold for €600 (about US$835 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"LUXEMBOURG, Duché, Élisabeth de Görlitz, engagiste (1425-1451), AR demi-gros à l'aigle, 2e émission (1433-1443), Luxembourg. D/ Aigle éployée au-dessus des écus de Bavière-Palatinat et Luxembourg. R/ Longue croix feuillue sur un quadrilobe. Fine griffe au droit. Belle pattine. Très Beau. (duchy of Luxembourg, Elizabeth of Gorlitz, mortgagor, 1425-51, silver half groat, second emission, circa 1433-43. Obverse: eagle displayed above the arms of Bavaria-Palatinate and Luxembourg; reverse: foliate cross in a quadrilobe. Fine scratch on the obverse, nice patina, Very Fine.)"

Sigismund of Luxembourg, Holy Roman Emperor 1433-37, defaulted on a mortgage to Elizabeth of Gorlitz, who foreclosed on the collateral, namely, the duchy of Luxembourg, then much larger than today's grand duchy. She ruled as duchess 1411-43, when the duke of Burgundy seized the province. This type was accompanied by a single gros and a quarter gros. The first emission had helmeted arms on the obverse and a long cross charged with arms on the reverse. Numista states this coin had a face value of six deniers. Varieties exist in the obverse and reverse legends.

Specification: 1.45 g, silver, 22 mm diameter, the first specimen 0,86 g, the second specimen 1,43 g.
