Lucca 1835 2 soldi
This specimen was lot 30145 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lucca. Charles Louis de Bourbon 2 Soldi 1835 MS65 NGC. A virtually flawless one-year type with satiny-silver tone and exceptionally clear fields. Scarcely available in the marketplace, this is an ideal representative from this relatively short-lived duchy. From The Law Collection." This two soldi was struck in the duchy of Lucca while it was ruled by Carlo Luigi di Borbone (1824-47). The type was struck 1835 only and is scarce, especially with the original silvery surface. The duchy was attached to Tuscany in 1847. It is now part of Italy.
