This specimen was lot 24569 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $2,937.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lucca. Republic gold Zecchino ND (1570's), AU58 NGC, a superb strike with a boldly detailed portrait of St. Vultus and full mint luster. A mint state coin in an AU holder. From The Formosa Collection." Lucca, a city state near Tuscany, was an occasional issuer of gold coins of which this is the least rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
