Lubeck 1775 thaler Dav-2411
This specimen was lot 4005 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$1,963 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"LÜBECK, BISTUM. Friedrich August, Herzog von Holstein-Gottorp, 1773-1785. Speciestaler 1775, Altona. Feine Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, bishopric of Lubeck, Frederick Augustus, duke of Holstein-Gottorp, 1773-85, specie daler of 1775, Altona mint. Fine toning, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This scarce type was accompanied by another thaler with a bust obverse (Dav-2412) which is extremely rare (mintage of 10). A gold five thalers (Fr-1931) concludes the series.
