This specimen was lot 5065 in Goldberg sale 69 (Los Angeles, May, 2012), where it sold for $6,612.50. The catalog description [2] noted, "Italian States - Tuscany. Tollero, 1723. (Livorno). Gian Gastone, 1723-1737. Bust right. Reverse: Crown over stone gateway. Well struck with reflective lustrous fields and a natural old tone. NGC graded AU-58." This type was struck by the Medici Grand Duke of Tuscany for Livorno 1723-26. The Italian word tollero may be translated into the German word thaler or the English word dollar.
