Künker Auction 441, lot 4941

This specimen was lot 4941 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €700 (about US$963 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BALTIKUM, LITAUEN Sigismund III. von Polen, 1587-1632. 3-Gröscher 1601 V, Vilnius. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung AU 55 (6274001-001). Von großer Seltenheit. Feine Patina, fast vorzüglich. (Baltic States, Lithuania, Sigismund III of Poland, 1587-1632, three groschen of 1601, Vilnius mint. Graded NGC AU-55, extremely rare, fine patina, about extremely fine.)"

This coin was called a trojak or 3 grosze in Polish, and is known from Lublin, Bydgoszcz/Bromberg, Wschowa/Fraustadt, Kraków and Poznań/Posen in addition to Wilno/Vilnius, shown here. The SCWC lists this type for 1600-03 and 1608.

Specification: 2.37 g, 0.844 fine silver, 20-21 mm diameter.
