This specimen was lot 20222 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $747.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Liege. Maximilian Henry Patagon 1664, MS62 NGC, a well-struck piece with bold details and light silvery mint luster. There are no adjustment marks, but there is a noticeable flan flaw to the left of the 16 of the date, as made." This type was struck 1662-88 but turns up very seldom, particularly in this quality. The bishopric of Liège was an ecclesiastical state in central Belgium and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. The surrounding territory was ruled by the Spanish Hapsburgs from about 1500 until 1699 and the Austrian Hapsburgs 1714-97.
