This specimen was lot 1659 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "LIBYA: Republic, 50 dirhams, 1979/AH1399, only 4 examples known, PCGS graded Specimen-68, ex King's Norton Mint Collection." Libya, long a part of the Ottoman Empire, was conquered by Italy in 1912 and held by them until Word War Two, when it was occupied first by the Nazis and then by the British and the Americans. Libya was granted independence as a constitutional monarchy by the United Nations in 1950. The monarchy was overthrown in 1969. This fifty dirhams was accompanied by KM 18 (dirham), 19 (5 dirhams), 20 (10 dirhams), 21 (20 dirhams), 23 (100 dirhams). Tho not often seen, none are valuable.

Recorded mintage: 9,120,000.
