This specimen was lot 73120 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "LIBERIA. Cent, 1847. PCGS PROOF-64 Brown Gold Shield. Dazzling and brilliant, this near Gem presents deep red-brown surfaces and a stunning array of luster radiating throughout. Just one has been graded finer in the PCGS census." This type was issued along with a similar two cents. Proofs exist and turn up in auctions from time to time, suggesting that they were saved. Liberty has a distinctly European appearance even tho the settlement was intended for Africans.
