This specimen was lot 73553 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "LEBANON. 50 Piastres, 1970. PCGS SPECIMEN-67 Gold Shield. Tied with just four other specimens at the top spot in the PCGS census report, this radiant Gem presents seemingly flawless surface quality. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." This was issued 1968-78. In 1980, a vicious war broke out between Christian and Muslim militias and soon the Israeli and Syrian armies were occupying various parts of that unhappy land. The cedar is the symbol of Lebanon, once forested with this handsome tree.
