The area of Lebanon was taken from Ottoman control after World War I, and placed under French mandate along with Syria. It was declared the Etat du Gran Liban in 1920. This five piastres was struck in Paris in 1924 along with a two piastres (KM 1). Both are fairly scarce. This specimen was lot 910 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it sold for $188. The catalog description[1] noted, "LEBANON: 5 piastres, 1924, PCGS graded MS64."

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000.

Specification: 4.10 g, Aluminum-bronze.
