Latvia 1929 5 lati rev DSLR.jpg

The Republic of Latvia was established in 1918 after the fall of czarist Russia. However, its independence was short lived, as it was occupied by Soviet troops in 1940 during World War II and the end of the war brought only incorporation into the Soviet Union. It regained its independence again in 1991. Shown is a 1929 five lats, silver. It is the 'crown' denomination, based on the French weight standard.

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000.

Specification: 25.0 g, 0.835 silver, 0.6712 oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 9, Dav-214.
