Kwangtung Province (now Guangdong) is on the south coast of China, and surrounds Hong Kong and Macau. The mint in the city of Guangzhou (Canton) opened in 1888 and issued a large number of coins until closure in 1931.

The first specimen shown was lot 60468 in Ponterio sale 162 (Hong Kong, August 2011), where it sold for $3,884. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Kwangtung. 20 Cents, Year 17 (1928). NGC MS-62." The second specimen was lot 1135 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,528. The catalog description[2] noted, "CHINA. Kwangtung. 20 Cents, Year 17 (1928). PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder."

Recorded mintage: 28,530,000.
