Kwangsi (Guangxi) Province is situated on the southern border, west of Hong Kong and bordering Vietnam. It constitutes the Guangxi Ahuang Autonomous Region, which holds special privileges for the indigenous Zhuang people. Mints operated at various times, with modern mints established in 1905 in two cities (Nanning and Kweilin). The specimen shown was lot 60424 in Ponterio sale 162 (Hong Kong, August 2011), where it sold for $1,314. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Kwangsi. 5 Cents, Year 12 (1923). 民國十二年廣西省造五分。Struck in cupro-nickel. Very scarce. Surface pitting. 鎳質。罕見。表面有凹痕。PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage VF."
