This specimen was lot 73541 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $70. The catalog description[1] noted, "KENYA. Shilling, 1973. PCGS SPECIMEN-67 Gold Shield. Exceedingly brilliant and mirrored, this robust Gem radiates with great allure and is exceeded in the PCGC population report by a mere three examples. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." This type was struck 1969-78. On Kenyatta's death in mid-1978, this type was replaced by a shilling featuring his successor, Daniel Arap Moi.

Recorded Mintage: 2,480,000 plus 500 proofs.

Specification: 8 g, copper-nickel, 27.8 mm diameter.
