Kazakhstan 2009 500 tenge KM-143
This specimen was lot 3675 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "KAZAKHSTAN: Republic, AR 500 tenge, 2009, The Gold of Nomads Series - Satyr Mask, with gilt & enameled design element, struck at the Kazakhstan Mint, Öskemen, with original COA and case of issue, NGC graded PF68 Ultra Cameo." This denomination was used for KM 127, KM 128, KM 129, KM 130, KM 131, KM 133, KM 137, KM 138, KM 139, KM 142, KM 143 (shown here), KM 148, KM 149, KM 150, KM 230, KM 231 in 2009. Öskemen was formerly known as Ust-Kamenogorsk in the far east of Kazakhstan. "Oskemen is often recognized as one of the most polluted cities in Kazakhstan. The atmosphere holds the byproducts of the city's heavy metals production: nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, zinc, cadmium, chlorine, arsenic, carbon, beryllium, phenol, benzol, sodium hydroxide, ammonia, and many more." Nursultan Nazarbayev was president of Kazakhstan 1991-2019. At present (July 2026), US$1 = 479 tenge.
