Jordan 1974 1/4 dinar KM-29
This specimen was lot 1134 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "JORDAN: al-Hussein b. Talal, 1952-1999, AR 1/4 dinar, 1974, Tenth Anniversary of the Central Bank of Jordan, mintage of 550 pieces in Proof, NGC graded PF66 Ultra Cameo, R. The slab label includes the Hijri date AH1394, but that is nowhere to be seen on the coin!" This commemorative was struck in silver. We note that central banks are especially addicted to self congratulatory commemorative issues. A circulating quarter dinar was struck in copper-nickel (KM 28).
Recorded mintage: 550 plus 400,000 of KM 28.
Specification: 19.04 g, 0.925 fine silver, 34 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-29.
