Jordan 1964 20 fils
This specimen was lot 885 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "JORDAN: Hussain Ibn Talal, 1952-1999, 20 fils, 1964/AH1383, produced only for the mint sets, PCGS Specimen, 3/0, total 3, PCGS graded Specimen." This type was struck 1963-65 for the mint sets but never issued for general circulation. No date is rare. Jordan, long a part of the Ottoman Empire, was seized by the British at the end of World War One but then granted independence under a local monarchy in 1946. King Hussein (r. 1951-99) proved to be an adroit politician who managed to maneuver between Israeli armed strength and the urgings of his Arab neighbors to attack Israel. Forced to participate in the wars of 1948, 1956 and 1967 (losing all three), the king stood aside when Sadat attacked Israel once again in 1973.
