Japan S53 10 yen rev DSLR.jpg

This ten yen was struck for Japan 1959-89 in large quantities. It superseded an earlier version with a reeded edge. Although some of the early dates are valuable in choice condition, this date is worthless in all grades. A very similar ten yen (Y97) was struck for Akihito. It is still being issued today under Naruhito's name altho its purchasing power is insignificant (10 yen = US$0.06 as of July 2024).

Recorded mintage: 1,435,000,000.

Specification: 4.5 g, bronze, 23.5 mm diameter, plain edge.

Catalog reference: KM Y73a.
