This ten yen was the first issued for the emperor Hirohito and was struck 1951-58. It was superseded by a similar type (KM 73a) struck 1959-89 with a plain edge. The type has a fairly high catalog value in Uncirculated which, sadly, this specimen is not.
Recorded mintage: 486,632,000.
Specification: 4.5 g, bronze, 23.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
Catalog reference: KM Y73.
