Japan 1940 (S15) 10 sen Y-61

This specimen was struck for Japan by the Tokyo mint, which issued this type 1940-41. Until 1907, the ten sen was a silver coin the size of a dime. It was copper-nickel 1920-32, pure nickel 1933-37, aluminum bronze 1938-40 and aluminum 1940-43. The denomination was terminated after 1946, the victim of inflation and the disaster of World War Two.

Recorded mintage: 575,600,000 for 1940-41 plus 16,135,794 of the aluminum bronze type (KM Y58).

Specification: 1.5 g, aluminum, 22 mm diameter.
