Jammu in 1942, between the Punjab and Kashmir

This specimen was lot 2503 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAMMU: Ranjit Deve, 1742-1780, AR rupee, Dar al-Aman Jammun, VS1841 year 29, ornate umbrella at upper right corner of obverse; bold strike, AU, ex Paul Stevens Collection." This scarce type was struck in years 27 and 28. Jammu was later absorbed into Kashmir and its coinage ceased.
