The specimen shown is from a type struck in Rome to honor the Taranto Naval Yards in the south of Italy. Other 200 lire for 1989 included KM 133 (World Cup) and KM 138 (Christopher Colombus). Aficionados of military history know that the British conducted an airborne raid there in 1940 which seriously damaged the Italian navy and served as the inspiration for the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
