Sincona sale 76, lot 1194

This specimen was lot 1194 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,335 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALY | Königreich. Umberto I. 1878-1900. 2 Lire 1899 R, Roma. FDC. NGC MS66. Prachtexemplar. (kingdom of Italy, Umberto I, 1878-1900, two lire of 1899, Rome mint. Gem Uncirculated, Cabinet piece.)"

This type was struck at the Rome mint 1881-87 and 1897-99 and is common in circulated condition. King Umberto was assassinated by an anarchist in 1900.

Recorded mintage: 610,000.

Specification: 10 g, 0.835 fine silver, .268 troy oz ASW, 27 mm diameter, lettered edge, this specimen 10.02 g.
