from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 23170

This specimen was lot 23170 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. 2 Lira, 1885-R. NGC Unc Details--Planchet Flaw. Gorgeous toning encircles the centers with a minor as-made planchet flaw on the obverse rim at 4 o'clock that has resulted in the "details" grade. VERY SCARCE in this quality and worthy of a close look despite the aforementioned imperfection." This type was struck at Rome for the kingdom of Italy 1881-87 and 1897-99. It is not rare tho this is a scarce date.

Recorded mintage: 598,008, a scarce date.

Specification: 10 g, 0.835 fine silver, 29 mm diameter, lettered edge.
