This specimen was lot 2566 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$1,798 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY | Königreich, Vittorio Emanuele II. 1861-1878. 20 Lire 1872 M, Milano. Very rare date. NGC MS63." This specimen is one of a series struck 1872-74 at the Milan mint during the reign of Victorio Emanuele II of Italy (1861-78). It is struck to the same standard as the contemporary French twenty francs. This type was also struck in Rome (1870-78) and Turin (1861-70).
Recorded mintage: unknown but a scarce date.
