Isle of Man 1987 15 angel
This specimen was lot 31082 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $28,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Elizabeth II gold 15 Angel (15 oz) 1987 MS68 NGC. A massive gold issue, preserved in essentially pristine condition, with a Standard Catalog of World Coins value in MS65 of $25,000." The Isle of Man lies in the Irish Sea between Britain and Ireland and remains a British dependency. It is famous for motorcycle racing and tailless cats. Token coppers were issued for the island in the eighteenth century but large production did not commence until 1971. About 1980, the island fell under the domination of the Pobjoy Mint, which has minted and marketed dozens of NCLT commemoratives. This denomination was issued again in 1988 with a different reverse (KM 200).
