Isle of Man 1709 1/2 penny
This specimen was lot 75185 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "ISLE OF MAN. 1/2 Penny Token, 1709. James Stanley, 10th Earl of Derby. PCGS VF-25. Rather pleasing for this cast issue. From the Sydney F. Martin Collection." This and the accompanying penny were issued under the dubious authority of the earl of Derby. Wikipedia comments, "James Stanley, 10th Earl of Derby PC (3 July 1664 – 1 February 1736), styled The Honourable until 1702, was a British peer, soldier and politician." On his death, the Isle of Man passed to the dukes of Atholl.
