This specimen was lot 72002 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRELAND. 1/2 Crown, 1934. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. A decently struck example with satiny surfaces and light attractive tone." The first Irish half crowns, issued 1928-34 and 1937, featured the obverse legend "SAORSTAT EIREANN"; the second type, issued 1939-43, merely stated "EIRE." The subsequent and final type (KM 16a), issued 1951-67, was copper-nickel. The Irish race horse depicted honors Irish agriculture.
