Stack's Bowers 2026 ANA sale, lot 44821
SB826-44821r.jpg

This specimen was lot 44821 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, September 2026), where it sold for $512.40. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRELAND. Groat (6 Pence), ND (1544-46). Dublin Mint; mm: Lis. Henry VIII. PCGS AU-50. Fifth harp issue. Obverse: Crowned harp, crowned h-R across field; Reverse: Crowned coat-of-arms over long cross fourchee." Previous groats, struck in the late 1530's, were 0.842 fine silver but the groats of 1546-47 were only 0.250 fine silver. This rapid and extreme debasement disrupted trade.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.45-2.51 g, 0.500 fine silver, 23-24 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: S-6483.
