Iran AH 1245 kran
This specimen was lot 38775 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN. Qajar Dynasty. Kran, AH 1245/4 (1829/30). Isfahan Mint. Fath Ali Shah. VERY FINE Details. Cleaned. Ex-Mount. Portrait type with seated Shah. An exceedingly RARE Kran that is stylistically similar to seated gold Tomans of Fath Ali Shah, this example offers presentable details with most of the obverse design retained and a nearly complete reverse. Previously pin or broach mounted with two obverse mount removal markings. Despite this fault, along with some extensive cleaning, this example should be seen as a chance to acquire an almost impossible type. We note for completeness that both PCGS and NGC have declined to encapsulate this piece; NGC for Altered Surface and PCGS for Authenticity Unverifiable. Therefore this lot is SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS."
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.67 g, silver, 24 mm diameter, this specimen 6.87 g.
Catalog reference: A-2894F (RRR), KM 763 (in gold).
