Iran AH 1157 ashrafi KM-390.3
This specimen was lot 44 in Sincona sale 92 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 8,000 CHF (about US$11,088 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN Afsharid Dynasty, Nader Shah, as king, 1148-1160 AH (1735-1747). Mohur Ashrafi 1157 AH (1744/1745), Kabul Mint. Von grösster Seltenheit. Möglicherweise Fassungsspuren, Of the highest rarity. NGC UNC Details, possibly ex jewelry. Purchased from Spink & Son, London, in 2010."
This type was struck AH 1157 and 1160 at Kabul in Afghanistan. Nader Shah was a conqueror in the old style of Tamburlaine but even he could not hold Afghanistan for long. Ashrafis of this style were also struck in Bahkar, Derajat and Peshawar.
