Iran AH 1137 ashrafi KM-335.1
This specimen was lot 35 in Sincona sale 92 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 3,800 CHF (about US$5,267 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN Hotak Dynasty, Ashraf, 1137-1142 AH (1724-1729). Ashrafi 1137 AH (1724/1725), Isfahan Mint. Sehr selten, Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung, Very rare. NGC MS65. Extraordinary condition. Purchased from A. Karimi, London, in 1986. Finest certified by NGC."
The auctioneers catalogued this as KM 306, which is an issue of Tahmasp II struck AH 1142-1144. This type was struck for Ashraf AH 1137-1140. Ashraf Shah was the fourth shah of the Hotaks but defeat at the hands of Nadir Khan crushed his hopes of succeeding the Safavids. His coinage and that of the other Hotaks are usually included with the Safavids even tho the Hotaks were Afghans and Sunni Muslims.
