This specimen was lot 2154 in Goldberg sale 115 (Los Angeles, February 2020), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "Iran. 5 Shahi, AH1128 (1715). Tabriz mint. Husayn I, AH1105-1135 / 1694-1722AD. PCGS graded AU-55." Iran was in extreme turmoil in the eighteenth century and rulers rose up and were murdered with gruesome regularity. Soltan Hoseyn, a weak and dissolute ruler installed by the eunuchs and the harem, allowed his realm to disintegrate while he drank and debauched himself. This type is listed from Tabriz (shown here), Isfahan (KM 276.2), Yerevan (KM 276.1) and Tiflis (KM 276.4).
