Steve Album sale 54, lot 467

This specimen was lot 467 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN: Ahmad III, 1703-1730, AR abbasi (16 para), Tabriz, AH1115, type A, gorgeous example, overstruck on uncertain host, probably Safavid, XF-AU, ex Kenneth A. Bovenkamp Collection." Tabriz was occupied by the Ottomans 1585-1603, 1618, 1635 and 1722-25. This abbasi was struck by the Turks during this last occupation and backdated. Abbasis struck in AH 1115 weighed 7.39 g but by the 1720's, the abbasi had shrunk to 5.40 g.
