This specimen was part of lot 32815 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), which sold for $329. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Quintet of silver Coins UNC, All are large silver issues promoting development, food, shelter, etc." The Indian government became an enthusiastic supporter of the F.A.O. program and issued many F.A.O. coins in the 1970's. This type was minted at the Bombay mint in 1974 to promote family planning.

Recorded mintage: 82,000 plus 13,000 proofs.

Specification: 34.7 g, 0.500 fine silver, 44 mm diameter.
