India 1955(b) 2 annas
This specimen was lot 21077 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 2 Annas, 1955-(B). Bombay Mint. NGC MS-64. RARE date. Exceptionally well preserved with a bold strike, terrific luster and light attractive toning. Tied with one other example for finest certified at either NGC or PCGS." No Indian coins exist dated 1948-49, 1947 dated coins being used instead. When Nehru withdrew from the British Commonwealth and declared India a republic in 1950, new coins were issued, including this two annas from the Bombay mint. The coinage was decimalized in 1957 and this denomination dropped.
