This specimen was struck for the republic of Iceland in 1966. Formerly a kingdom under the Danish crown, Iceland declared herself a republic in 1944. The first republic coinages were one, five, ten, twenty-five aurar and one and two kronur issued in 1946. So many were minted that no more were struck until 1953. Few issues of the republic are catalogued at more than a few dollars.
