This specimen was struck for the republic of Iceland in 1963, the other dates being 1946, 1958, 1962 and 1966. Formerly a kingdom under the Danish crown, Iceland declared herself a republic in 1944. The first republic coinages were one, five, ten, twenty-five aurar and one kronur issued in 1946. Few issues of the republic are catalogued at more than a few dollars.
