This specimen was lot 74053 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Hyderabad. 1/16 Rupee, AH 1321 Year 37 (1903). Hyderabad Mint. Mir Mahbub Ali Khan II (under Edward VII as Emperor). PCGS MS-65. A beautiful Gem Mint State example, this wholesome representative delivers a rich luster and strongly impressed strike throughout. From the Kings Norton Mint Collection." The princely state of Hyderabad was one of the last absorbed into the Republic of India in 1948. It was also the largest state and residence of the last remnant of Mughal suzerainty in central India. Many of the issues show the Chahar Minar gateway on the obverse. This type was struck years 1299-1307, 1313-1314 and 1321 and is rather expensive. The buyer of this lot obtained a bargain.
