Sincona sale 101, lot 3386

This specimen was lot 3386 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 11,000 CHF (about US$16,579 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. 10 Francs (4 Forint) 1890 KB, Kremnitz. Vorzüglich-FDC. (empire of Austria-Hungary, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, ten francs or four florins of 1890, Kremnitz mint. About Uncirculated.)"

This denomination was struck 1870-92 to match the standard of the French ten francs d'or. Most dates are common. After the reorganization of the Hapsburg empire into the Dual Monarchy in 1867, Hungary received her own coinage separate from Austrian issues. Two varieties exist for 1890: KM 466 (struck 1880-90) and KM 476.1 (struck 1890-92, shown here). KM 466 has the checkerboard (for Croatia) on the first quarter of the reverse, KM 476.1 has the checkerboard on the second quarter. Friedberg does not separate the two types.

Recorded mintage: 28,989 for both types.

Specification: 3.22 g, 0.900 fine gold, .093 troy oz AGW, 19 mm diameter, this specimen 3.23 g.

Catalog reference: KM 476.1, Huszar 2121. Herinek 2274. Fr-247.
