The first specimen was lot 3799 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$1,799 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Ferdinand I. 1521-1564 Taler 1554. Kremnitz. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. (kingdom of Hungary, Ferdinand I, 1521-64, thaler of 1554, Kremnitz mint. Very fine-extremely fine. Attractive patina.)"

The second specimen was lot 34856 in Heritage sale 3094 (Chicago, August 2021), where it sold for $4,560. The catalog description[2] noted, "Hungary: Ferdinand I Taler 1554-KB MS62 NGC, Kremnitz mint. A wonderful specimen certified just shy of Choice Mint State, this scarcer date Taler of Ferdinand depicts the emperor with scepter and sword in finely-engraved armor decorated in whimsical foliate scrolls, the reverse remains equally as impressive and well-preserved, boasting exceptionally little evidence of handling, making it apparent this piece was likely tucked away in a cabinet soon after issue. With lovely argent surfaces punctuated by crescents of iridescence, we expect this piece to draw the eye of any quality-minded collector." Davenport lists this type of 1553-56 under Austria but we feel the conspicuous "KB" mintmark means this coin should be filed under Hungary, then being contested with the Turks.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, the first specimen: 28.09 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-8032, Huszar 913, Voglhuber-50/II.
