This module and alloy was introduced in 1949, the pre-war type being pure nickel, and used until 1988, when the denomination was terminated. In 1982, the Hong Kong dollar was worth US$0.17. This type was struck 1971-72 and 1977-80.

Recorded mintage: 6,000,000.

Specification: 2.50 g, nickel-brass, reeded edge, 16.5 mm diameter.
