This specimen was lot 71635 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS. 50 Centavos, 1887/6. PCGS AU-55. KM-51. Overdate variety. A well-preserved example with attractive smoky-gray toning and spots of darker patina. From the Pat Johnson Collection." This type was issued 1883-87, 1896-97 and 1908 and usually comes poorly struck. Many overdates and varieties exist. The SCWC lists an 1887/5 overdate but not the 1887/6 shown here. The peso was dropped in favor of the lempira in 1931.
