Honduras 1849-T G 4 reales
The first specimen was lot 21040 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $493.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS. 4 Reales, 1849-TG. NGC AU-55. RARE in this state of preservation. Scarce two year type with higher silver content of 0.172. Far and away vastly superior than what is normally found with full silver wash still intact. Finest graded by NGC with none graded by PCGS. Lustrous with attractive slate on the high points and bright open areas. Quite the treat for the connoisseur of Central American. From the Richard Stuart Collection." Honduras issued various four reales 1849-57, starting at 17% silver (KM 20) and ending with a copper-lead alloy (KM 20e). Despite the low catalog value, none are common, especially in nice condition, as there was little incentive to hoard such debased coins.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: .172 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM-20.
