Hesse-Marburg 1604 thaler Dav-6816
This specimen was lot 3932 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €3,900 (about US$5,104 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HESSEN, HESSEN-MARBURG, LANDGRAFSCHAFT. Ludwig IV. 1567-1604. Reichstaler 1604, Marburg. RR Sehr schön. (Germany, landgraviate of Hesse-Marburg, Louis IV, 1567-1604, thaler of 1604, Marburg mint. Rare, very fine.)"
Hesse was divided into four parts in 1567 to provide lands for four brothers. Ludwig IV of Hesse-Marburg died without heirs in 1604 and his share reverted to Hesse-Cassel. This rare issue was accompanied by a double thaler (Dav-6815).
