Hanau in 1789, between Isenburg and Frankfurt. Munzenberg is to the north, neighboring Solms

This specimen was lot 4008 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €3,600 (about US$4,724 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HANAU-MÜNZENBERG, GRAFSCHAFT, Wilhelm VIII. von Hessen-Kassel, 1736-1760. 1/2 Dukat 1739, Hanau. GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Min. gewellt, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (county of Hanau-Munzenberg, William VIII of Hesse-Cassel, 1736-60, half ducat of 1739, Hanau mint. Extremely rare, slightly wavy, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This is the only issue of this denomination from this county. The native dynasty fell extinct in 1736 and the state was ruled by the landgraves of Hesse-Cassel until 1803. The other part, Hanau-Lichtenberg, passed to Hesse-Darmstadt.
