Hamburg 1661 ducat Fr-1100
This specimen was lot 4002 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €1,000 (about US$1,312 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HAMBURG, STADT, Dukat 1661. Münzmeister Matthias Freude. Variante ohne Münzmeisterzeichen. GOLD. Min. Kratzer, leichte Wachsreste, vorzüglich. (city of Hamburg, ducat of 1661. Variety without mintmaster's mark. Light hairlines, traces of wax residue, extremely fine.)"
This type was minted more or less uninterruptedly from 1497 to 1667. It is still scarce despite nearly two centuries of production.
